Teen Charged After Costly Harford County Barn Fire

A 15-year-old Maryland boy is facing charges for allegedly intentionally setting a Harford County barn fire that caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages, state officials announced.

Deputy State Fire Marshals announced that the teen has been arrested and charged following an investigation into a barn fire that was reported in the 5300 block of Onion Road on Sunday, June 19.

Crews from the Norrisville Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding agencies were dispatched at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, where there was a report of a barn that was set ablaze, authorities said.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal was requested to investigate the origin and cause, and investigators concluded the fire was an intentional act.

Officials said that the barn and its contents are considered a complete loss, and damages are estimated to be upwards of $750,000.

After confirming his involvement, Deputy State Fire Marshals consulted with the Harford County State's Attorney’s Office, and the teen was charged with:

  • Arson;
  • Malicious destruction of property;
  • Malicious burning.

He was released to the custody of his parents and referred to the Department of Juvenile Services.
